CÒIG (CANADA)
Mar 12 all-day

coig7pm doors, 8pm show

Còig is one of Atlantic Canada’s most exciting Celtic traditional groups made up of four accomplished multi-instrumentalists, Chrissy Crowley, Rachel Davis, Darren McMullen and Jason Roach. With the fiery Celtic high energy style as its musical core, Còig easily shifts between century old tunes of past generations to original and upbeat compositions, featuring the bands range of over a dozen instruments (vocals, fiddles, piano, guitars, banjo, mandolin, viola, bouzouki, whistles, and more). With driving tunes, haunting songs and infectious energy, Còig is an unparalleled music force.

“…every number is convincing and compellingly delivered. This group’s ability to back songs on piano, fiddles, cello, guitars and more gives them enormous scope, and keeps the surprises coming.” – Alex Monaghan, FolkWorld

The best in trad music, in a non-traditional way. That’s Còig.

THE BEATLES: ALBUM TRACKS, B-SIDES & SELECTED HITS @ Django
Mar 13 all-day

BEatles7pm doors, 9pm show

‘The Album Show’ presents “The Beatles: Album Tracks, B-Sides and Selected Hits”.

Featuring a 4 piece band of some of the most experienced ‘Beatle performers’ in the country, the show will predominately focus on tracks that many would consider ‘second tier’ in the Beatles’ vast catalogue. But these songs are hardly obscure, with some of the most iconic tunes in the Fab Four’s catalogue getting rare live performances, mixed in with a few really obscure tracks, and enough bonafide hits to fill out an informal and complete night of Beatle tunes.

Lead by producer/singer-songwriter Michael Carpenter (The Beatle Boys/Petty Nicks) and featuring John Kater (The Beatle Boys/1927), Rod Auld (The Beatle Boys/Jonah’s Road) and Russell Crawford (The Beatle Boys/Josh Pyke), the night will give these talented musicians an opportunity to explore the catalogue of a band that continues to inspire musicians and music fans alike, in a way never witnessed before in popular music.

Fresh from their European tour, The Vampires are back in Australia with 12 shows along the east coast, promoting their sixth release Pacifica.

The Vampires are trailblazers for a generation of creative talent from Sydney, having gained critical attention worldwide in the jazz community and beyond.

Combining influences from around the world, the band has developed an original sound that has been compared to such diverse sources as Mulatu Astatke, Blue-Note Jazz, Electric Miles Davis, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Bob Marley and Henri Texier’s cinematic music, yet has something of their own. Having developed their music through the band’s 14 years of touring, travelling, and recording together, the band has found a recognisable sound that is as much the sum of the individuals in the group as it is a part of Australian jazz.

LOUIS TILLETT & THE LT3
Mar 19 all-day

IMG_51177pm doors, 8pm show

Louis brings the core of his band The Art of Darkness to light in a new and exciting combo, as we premiere the LT3, and it’s combined experience of 100 years of live playing, right here in Marrickville. This is something you are unlikely to see on a regular basis.

Louis, with his trademark baritone vocals and blues/rock piano style, combines with John Maddox’ unique virtuosity on Bass and Colin Watson’s thoroughbred Guitar expertise and feel, to bring Louis’ repertoire into a dangerous new place. You may remember Louis from his dozen “solo” albums and pioneering improv ensembles like Paris Green, or his thunderous big bands, such as The Aspersion Caste. He has also been a featured pianist on recordings of such legendary Australian acts as Died Pretty, Beasts of Bourbon, Laughing Clowns, and Tex, Don & Charlie, and many others. In International circuits he is billed as the Rockpoet of The Night, and he is held in the same high esteem and written and filmed in the same publications and TV specials as his peers John Cale, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Tom Waits. UK Rolling Stone called him The Dark Giant.

He rarely plays in Australia, preferring to “ride on the tide and the wings of the wind”, as so much of his music alludes to, him being a full time sailor. After more than 2 years since The Art of Darkness last played, which filled The Factory Theatre in 2017 and 2015, this night will present a rare opportunity to catch Louis in an intimate and dynamic environment, where, keeping the band small and tight, each performance takes on it’s own life and direction, leaving all three players to leave the script, to allow them to take the music where it needs to go at that particular time. Louis Tillett, as a musician and a bandleader is synonymous with the Sydney Live and Underground music of the 80s, 90s and 00s. Come and find out why he is often touted as a National Living Treasure.

Apr 4 all-day

suzie snakepit motown7pm doors, 9pm show

Suzy And the Snakepit pay tribute to the Motown tunes that everywhere, around the world, get people dancing in the street. In the 1960s in Detroit, Motown found the perfect formula for pop: catchy, clever songwriting, great singers, and deeply danceable grooves. The musicians that Berry Gordy assembled in Motown’s studio, the Snakepit, also had an enormous influence on rock & roll – Motown tunes have been covered by everyone from The Rolling Stones to The Jam to Motorhead.

Suzy And The Snakepit play a set that revolves around the best of Hitsville USA, from the effervescent hits that you’d have to be a grouch not to love, like Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed Sealed Delivered’ or The Temptations’ ‘Ain’t Too Proud To Beg’ but also includes some treasured deep cuts from the era. Based around the soulful vocals of Suzy G, and featuring a crack backing band including musicians who’ve played with Sydney indie bands like Pel Mel, Perry Keyes, Fallon Cush, Lazy Susan, and Eva Trout, Suzy And The Snakepit will play hit after hit that will keep you ready for a brand new beat. DANIEL WELTLINGER (BERLIN)
Apr 5 all-day

Weltlinger6pm doors, 7pm show

‘If you can make sound tell a story it becomes music, and were Daniel Weltlinger not a musician, he would still be a story-teller…he uses notes the way a supremely elegant writer – say, Austen or Orwell – uses words, so the sounds, rhythms and sentence constructions dovetail with the meaning so perfectly that the reader’s eye dances effortlessly along each line.’ John Shand – Sydney Morning Herald

Born in Sydney, Australia in 1977 and of French-Austro-Hungarian-Israeli family background, the critically acclaimed Berlin-based violinist and composer- producer Daniel Weltlinger has long been renowned worldwide for his distinctive warm sound and innovations within the genres of Gypsy-swing, jazz, Yiddish-klezmer and experimental/free-improvised music.

GLENN SHORROCK
May 2 all-day

A Sharper Image7pm doors, 9pm show

With a career spanning over 40 years, Glenn Shorrock is one of the elder statesmen of Australian contemporary show business.

Born in England, Glenn migrated at the age of 10 to Adelaide in the mid-1950s. A self-confessed child of rock n roll, he began singing in 1962 with a vocal group called the Twilights.

Axiom with Brian Cadd followed shortly thereafter, with hits including Arkansas Grass and Little Ray of Sunshine. Axiom disbanded soon after with Glenn moving to London in 1970.

Late 1974, Glenn returned to Melbourne to help form Little River Band as lead singer. Managed by long time friend, Glenn Wheatley, Little River Band cracked the lucrative United States market in 1976, and began a string of eight Top Ten Hits in the U.S.A. and around the world. The band has sold in excess of 25 million albums, often being credited for opening the door for many Australian acts on the international circuit.

Glenn’s credentials extend to all fields of show business, notably in theatre and cabaret where he starred in Evita, The Rocky Horror Show, One for the Money, Go Cat Go and Two Up.

As a testament to his enduring talent he has been twice inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame first in 1991 in his own right and again with The Little River Band in 2004.

Kallidad return to Camelot Lounge!

Day of the Dead “Flamingo Fiesta” trio Kallidad formed in unlikely circumstances five years ago, and partly by accident. From humble beginnings Kallidad have become a world class headining act.

An all instrumental show, Kallidad do not need to utter one word to create a bond with their audience, combining Spanish guitar styles with Heavy Metal roots to create a once in a lifetime sound that has seen the group visit Europe, Japan, Indonesia and New Zealand.

Kallidad is one of Australia’s hardest working bands, constantly crisscrossing the great southern land, spreading their music and engaging with the land itself. The lineup is simple two Spanish guitars and percussion. But don’t let the lightweight set up fool you!
