QUEEN PORTER STOMP (ALBUM LAUNCH) + GIFFEN + WHOA MULE @ Django Bar
Jun 24 @ 9:00 pm

QPS6pm doors, 9pm show

Queen Porter Stomp use their dirty swamp magic to shirk those blues. They pack a punch with blazing horns that scream straight to your soul, a banjo that exorcises demons on the wrong side of midnight and a ukulele songstress that seduces like a warm summers day. Blending folk, jazz and world music they cross over scenes, taking their caravan up, down and through the smoke and mud of the festival circuits (like Woodford, Manly Jazz Festival and Falls Festival). Shine those shoes and undo that top button – if you’re just tapping those toes, then you’re in the wrong bar. This is Queen Porter’s joint.

Weaving meaningful poetry into memorable sound and story, Giffen sing wistful songs of family, unrequited love and folk music.

Whoa Mule brings you old time country ballads, original songs, and driving triple fiddle dance tunes. Inspired by the rapid weather changes of the Blue Mountains and the bustle of Sydney streets, these musicians deliver a performance characterised by both space and energy.

TIJUANA TAXI – A TRIBUTE TO THE TIJUANA BRASS
Jun 24 @ 9:00 pm

 7pm doors, 9pm showtijuana-taxi-logo-001-smaller-1

Sipping Whisky Sours, Martinis, and Grasshoppers on a mid-sixites summer eve – these were the glory days of Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass.

TIJUANA TAXI is a natty 8 piece ensemble (with real marimba!) that evokes the mood and music of the swinging sixties, faithfully recreating 21 classics of this unique, upbeat, melodic group whose tunes became the backdrop for the 60’s and 70’s and will strike chords of deep nostalgia for baby boomers as well as intrigue and delight the next generation of kitsch-loving younger gen folks. It’s music that spans generations.
With hits such as “Spanish Flea”, “Tijuana Taxi”, “The Lonely Bull” and “A Taste of Honey”, this is the tip of the iceberg of the great body of work put out by Herb and his band.
The band itself is a who’s who of Sydney’s great musicians, and is led by bassist Tina Harris who also leads her 12 piece Cuban salsa orchestra, El Orqueston, a popular Camelot Lounge act, as well as playing for several other multicultural music outfits such as West African funk band, Keyim Ba, Brazilian Jazz project Matanza, 15 piece Cumbia band Cumbiamuffin and latin soul outfit Barrio Soul. Straddling musical worlds, she also pops up in the pit band for various productions at The Hayes Theatre, currently Cabaret The Musical, and previously Little Shop of Horrors, Rent and Sweet Charity.

TIJUANA TAXI is an entertainment experience not to miss!

LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL: The ultimate vintage rock show @ Django Bar
Jul 21 @ 9:00 pm

metak 1a

Classic is a word too often applied to the mediocre. Too easily posted alongside the drab and dreary. It is a phrase too readily conjured for older rock, regardless of its standing.

But It is a dirty word no more.

Long Live Rock and Roll is a show concocted by journeymen of the genre, through decades of blood, sweat and tears on the road. It is more than a tribute to the Gods of rock’n’roll, it is a flashback to a time when the music was simple, but the songs were great.

Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, Toto, The Cult, Chuck Berry and Queen are just a few of the great acts to get reborn in this must-watch show. We’ll say no more, and let the music do the talking.
