MIKE NOCK’s quartet make their CAMELOT LOUNGE debut in what promises to be a night of real musical invention plus lots of surprises. With the combined talents of bassist Brett Hirst, drummer James ‘Pug’ Waples and the sublime tenor saxophone of Karl Laskowski, the Quartet punches way above its weight. The musical camaraderie the group shares from many years of playing together, is clearly evident at all their performances. As an added bonus the Quartet will be joined by one this country’s outstanding young musicians in guitarist Hilary Geddes. Warm up your winter with this night of uplifting cutting edge jazz!
Returning from the USA in 1985, after 25 years of touring and recording with the greats, Mike Nock remains an inspiration to everyone who crosses his path musically. After his 1960 Australian debut with the THREE-OUT, Mike then left for the USA, initially gaining world-wide attention with his jazz-rock group The FOURTH WAY. He returned to Australia in 1985, after 25 years touring and recording with the greats, continues to push the envelope and remains at the leading edge of Australia’s creative music scene. His new group combines Mike’s long established quartet of saxophonist KARL LASKOWSKI, drummer JAMES WAPLES and bassist BRETT HIRST, with guitarist HILARY GEDDES, the “new kid on the block” who brings an element of earthiness and unpredictability to the music.
